4 Surprising Things That Might Be Affecting Your Skin

healthy skin

Healthy skin isn’t just about vanity and beauty. In many ways, your skin is a reflection of your internal health and even the environment you’re in. Many people find themselves plagued with skin issues even though they do everything right. They eat nutritious foods, take care of their skin and protect it from the elements, but still struggle with breakouts, irritations and other challenges.

How our skin looks and feels can tell us a lot about some of the areas we might need to improve in our homes or our care routines. This applies to every member of our family. We can use our skin as a way to measure and gauge our health. Here are some of the surprising things that might be affecting your skin and how you can solve them.

Hard Water

We all know that drinking water is an important part of having great skin, but the water we wash our faces with also impacts it. Did you know that the water that flows through your taps and pipes has a texture? Some water is hard while other variants are softer. This has a lot to do with the kinds of minerals in the water, which in turn has an impact on things like your skin and hair. Hard water strips moisture from your skin, can cause conditions like eczema, and even impacts the health of your hair. If your home has hard water, you might notice some of these effects on your or your family, and thankfully there is a solution to this. The EcoPureHome water softener system is a filtration process that help make your water softer, which will help to reverse this issue. The benefits of this system isn’t just to your skin and hair, it will also help your appliances last longer and save you a lot of money in the process.

Pillowcases and Bedding

We spend up to 8 hours sleeping, and we often focus on the quality of the beds we sleep on, but another factor is the actual bedding and pillows we use. The fabric of our pillowcases and bedding can be too hard and rough on our skin, or the skin cells that our faces shed can build up on our pillows. The longer we go without washing and cleaning our pillowcases, the more our skin gets affected by this. Consider washing your pillows frequently, and also changing them up regularly to make sure they are clean and fresh, and not packed with harmful toxins and other dirt that might be taking away from the health of your skin.

Bad Mix of Skincare Products

The average skincare routine of today isn’t just wash, tone and moisturize. Nowadays, there can be up to 9 steps in a daily skincare regimen. 3 types of cleansing, essence, serums, and creams that all serve different purposes and contain active ingredients that promise results that range from increasing moisture to getting rid of blemishes and scars. These active ingredients of the multiple steps in the regimen have to play well together. If they don’t, the result of this can be skin irritation and issues like dryness and breakouts. For example, products containing retinoids often don’t mix with Vitamin C products. It’s important to find out if the products you buy work well together so that you don’t end up creating avoidable skin issues.

Not Cleansing Enough

According to skincare experts, one of the weaker areas of how we take care of our skin is that we rush cleaning it. We often do one very quick wash, and the health of our skin suffers in the process. When we wash our faces, we often leave layers of dirt and product on it. If you or your kids use SPF for example, it’s important that it gets washed off completely because it can build up in the skin, causing many undesirable side effects.

When we clean our faces, we have to consider doing so more than once at a time so we fully remove all the dirt, grime and product residue that might be clogging our pores. Instead of trying to find a miracle product to solve a skincare concern, consider that the ones you already have might just need to be used more effectively. Our skin tells us volumes about our health and what needs to be tweaked and improved. If you’re finding that you and anyone in your family is being troubled, consider looking into these things. The answers might lie in an unexpected place.
