8 Benefits Investing in a Better Mattress Will Allow You to Enjoy

mattress-bed-bedroom-cute

People spend a lot of time in their bed but don’t put much effort into the mattresses that they’re buying. This can lead to a long time of backache, restless nights, and general discomfort. These aren’t the only benefits you could experience by investing time and research into buying the right mattress.

Be prepared to splurge a little with a new mattress,  but still create a budget to work with. A quality mattress will save you on medical costs in the future.

1. Better Quality of Sleep

Going for the cheapest mattress and pillow that you can find can turn out to be the biggest mistake you can make.   Studies show that having a mattress like a Tempur-pedic that is comfortable will have a dramatic effect on the quality of your sleep, allowing you to feel more well-rested at the start of each day.

But this isn’t the only benefit of great sleep. Because your body has the chance to fully rest, you’ll see improvements to your immune system, decreased blood pressure, reduced risks of heart disease and obesity, and improved overall mood. Sleep deprivation, on the other hand, affects cognitive function, memory, increases irritability and increases your chances of having an accident.

2. Helping your Body Feel Good

An uncomfortable mattress isn’t going to do much for your body when you’re sleeping on it for eight hours each night. It can put pressure on the joints and affect the alignment of your spinal column. Your spine does a lot of work keeping your body upright throughout the day, and if you don’t give it the rest it deserves, you’ll start to experience a lot of painful tension. And we all know how debilitating a painful back can be, especially during the work week.

A comfortable mattress will save you from all of this pain, as well as saving you costs on physical therapists to minimize your back pain, muscle relaxers, and pain pills.

3. Reduced Allergy Systems

If you already have a mattress but you’ve had it for a long time, it’s time to make a change. Old mattresses are a breeding ground for dust mites and allergy triggers. Even if you change your sheets on a regular basis, your bed has likely absorbed a lot of your body’s oils over the years. Instead of sleeping on a festering pool of allergens and dirt, a new mattress may eliminate those itchy eyes in the morning. It’s hard to part with an old friend that you’ve had for so long but your health will be thankful for the change.

4. Improved Quality of Life

Your brain does a lot of work during the day and it needs a mini-vacation at the end of each day. Having a bad mattress is like poking a sleeping bear over and over again; it’s going to get irritated. Your brain may not be able to rip you to shreds, but you will feel “less happy” every morning when you wake up. Giving your brain the rest that it deserves will allow it to function more normally so that your brain chemistry isn’t out of whack.

5. The Kind of Mattress

Mattresses are being made from plenty of different materials nowadays that it pays to do some research. Knowing the purpose of the various mattresses will help you find the one that’s right for your body.

Memory foam is a great option but it doesn’t have a lot of giving. Its purpose is to provide support to your joints while you sleep, which is great for people who have certain joint issues. The downside to memory foam is that it ends up retaining a lot more heat, leaving you feeling hotter at night.

Latex mattresses provide springiness and softness that can feel great against your body. However, they cost a lot more to make so they’re more expensive. If a latex mattress seems like a good choice, go for a hybrid form so that you’re saving money.

Adjustable air mattresses provide a lot of versatility, allowing you control how firm or soft it is by how much air you have in it. Over time, however, these mattresses are prone to leaks after long periods of use.

Innerspring mattresses are what people are most used to. There are metal coils under the surface that provide the support you need. They can work well… for a time. They’re made of metal so they do wear out eventually and if a coil is damaged in some way, it’s going to bend and become a pressure spot somewhere on your body that isn’t pleasant.

6. Bells and Whistles

New mattresses are being sold with more and more features attached to them that can really make the difference in how well you sleep at night. Some mattresses have added heat and massage options that can really take the burden off your bed. This is especially helpful for those who are suffering from edema, poor blood circulation in the legs, and overall body tension.

7. Improved Attention

Finding it hard to stay focused at work? It’s likely that your bed is to blame. A new and comfortable mattress will help you to increase your focus and improve your memory so that you can get through a work day more effectively. You’ll also fidget less throughout the day, which is your body’s way of trying to keep you awake.

8. Losing Weight

Those who don’t get enough sleep each night are more prone to keeping on the pounds. This is because the brain is responsible for taking care of metabolism and sleep at the same time, so if you’re not giving it a rest, it’s not going to handle these responsibilities very well. Along with more fat being stored, a person who doesn’t get enough sleep will also have decreased muscle mass, leaving you less fit overall.

Why not treat your body to what it deserves each night and get a mattress to do the job for you? Your overall health will appreciate it and you’ll be able to wake up more refreshed and with a more positive attitude each morning.
