5 Awesome Things to Do in Tokyo on Your Next Vacation

Looking to make memories that will last a lifetime? Click here to learn some of the best things to do in Tokyo that are sure to blow your mind.

Tokyo Vacation

As the fastest growing travel destination in the world, Japan saw a record high of over 32.5 million foreign visitors in 2019.

If you’re lucky enough to be joining their ranks soon, you’re likely looking for some ways to make your trip as amazing as possible. Of course, one of the destinations you’ll need to head to is Japan’s capital, Tokyo.

This shimmering metropolis is the perfect combination of the old and the new. Read on for some things to do in Tokyo that you won’t want to miss!

  1. Tokyo Tower

The Tokyo Tower is Japan’s second-tallest structure at 332.9 meters. It’s a communication and observation tower that you can climb to the top of and look down from.

The shape of the structure is inspired by the Eiffel Tower, which makes sense when you consider Japan’s love for all things European. This alone is a twist that makes it well worth seeing.

  1. Tokyo Skytree

At 634.0 meters in height, the Tokyo Skytree is the #1 tallest building in Japan! If you love architecture and skyscrapers, this is a destination that you absolutely won’t want to miss.

The same goes if you love entertainment since the Skytree is the primary broadcaster of television and radio programs across Japan. If you want to see where your favorite programs come from, this is the place for you!

  1. The Shrines and Temples

Japan is home to many religions, with Shintoism and Buddhism being the main ones. As a result, the capital is filled with beautiful shrines and temples that people worship at (and have worshipped at) across time.

Not only is heading to historic shrines like the Sensou-ji and Meiji Jingu an amazing spiritual experience, but you can also learn a lot about history there. Plus, you can make a wish on the temple’s wooden ornament boards, and legend has it that the wish will come true!

  1. Fujiko F. Fujio Museum

Love anime? Ever heard of the classic children’s show called Doraemon?

Anime fan or not, you probably have. You’ll want to go to the Fujiko F Fujio Museum, a museum that commemorates the life, work, and creative processes of Doraemon’s creator. Watch a few episodes of the classic program before heading to this amazing temple dedicated to creativity!

  1. Walk the Streets

As with any new place, some of the best memories you make in Tokyo will simply be those you make wandering around the city. Go shopping in the major districts and check out the unique technologies that Japan has to offer (robots will be your assistants at many grocery stores.)

Also, make sure that you visit a beef-bowl shop and a ramen bar for some delicious traditional dishes. Cat cafes are also very much real, so if you’re a lover of all things feline, check these out!
