How to Furnish A Home on A Budget

adorable-animal-canine-furniture

Finally managing to buy your own home can be one of the greatest feelings of achievement you’ll experience in your lifetime, but it will also be one of your biggest financial expenses. Once the sale has completed hopefully you will be financially secure, after having saved up for your deposit, your survey, your agency and solicitor fees, and the stamp duty, however you will then be faced with an empty house. Here, we run through some ideas on how to furnish your new home without spending another fortune.

Up-Cycling

Furniture up-cycling is the latest craze in home interiors, and essentially consists of updating second-hand goods. This really helps you to keep costs down as you can search thrift shops and antique shops for great bargains, and the tools to update them such as paint or wax can be bought at very affordable prices. If you need a little help with these costs, take a look at https://www.gobear.com/sg. Up-cycling is great if you’re creative, and it allows you to tailor your furniture to fit the theme you want in your home.

Asking Around

whatsapp

One of the first things you should do when you’re faced with the project of filling a new home with furniture is set up a group chat on an app like Whatsapp, containing family and friends. This way, you can ask around to see if anyone has any similar belongings that they don’t want. You’ll be surprised by how many things you’ll be able to source in this way. Older generations tend to hoard things in the hope that one day they will be of use to their children or grandchildren, and finally they will.

Online

Thanks to the vast potential of the internet, there is now a multitude of sites where you can buy and sell belongings to and from people in your local area. This is great to make the most of, as you will be able to find loads of things at discount prices that you can go and collect easily yourself. Some sites even give items away for free when people simply want to get rid of them. It also helps to speed up the process of filling your home, compared to buying from shops which often take a week to deliver items.

Buying a home is very expensive, so you need to save as much as possible before and after in order to be able to achieve this goal without losing your financial stability. Having to furnish you new home once you have bought it is one of the biggest threats to this, so it is crucial that you think outside the box in order to stick to a manageable budget. There are lots of things you can do to keep the costs down, including up-cycling second-hand furniture, contacting family and friends to see if they have anything they want to get rid of, and making the most of online sites to find discounted, and in some instances free, second-hand belongings in your local area. The only thing you need to buy new is a mattress.

These are good ideas. I see good bargains, but I haven’t been able to find a cost effective way to get them, so I have been letting them go.
