traveling-with-pet

Sometimes a vacation just isn’t the same if you can’t take your dog with you. But when you travel with your pet, not every place will welcome you with open arms. So why not seek out places that cater to dogs?

Luckily, there are some terrific dog-friendly destinations around the U.S. that you can take your pick from. Here are six for you to consider.

  1. Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri

Eating

If you’re into craft beers, Tap and Grill Lakeside Brew Haus has you covered with over 60 options. Pair the libations with a saltwater pool and a pet menu and you have arguably one of the best dog friendly restaurants at Lake of the Ozarks.

Dock your boat and stay a while.Featuring a patio with plenty of room for your four-legged friend, you can enjoy live music and a party atmosphere while noshing on fare, such as tacos, burgers and Cajun favorites, at Shady Gators.

Sleeping

After you’ve sampled the local food and drink, you can take your pick from the pet-friendly hotels Lake of the Ozarks has to offer. Options include Camden on the Lake Resort, Lake House Hotel and Lodge of Four Seasons.

  1. Austin, Texas

Eating

If a road trip to Texas is in your future, make sure to bring the dog along. There, you’ll find Moontower Saloon, a doggy-friendly atmosphere, complete with food trailers, fire pits and live music. Situated on more than 11 acres in Austin, Moontower is the perfect spot.

Or try The Buzz Mill, offering a wide variety of beverage selections, such as the basics, plus options like kombucha and habanero-infused Bloody Marys. What makes this eatery dog-friendly are the watering bowls for the canines and picnic tables for their owners.

Sleeping

Book accommodations at Austin’s Casa Del Sol Bed and Breakfast on BringFido.com, which will ensure you receive a pet-friendly booking — and no surprises when you arrive. Other options include Staybridge Suites and Omni Austin Hotel Downtown.

  1. Portland, Oregon

Eating

No matter where you are in Portland, a Lucky Labrador Brewing Co. probably isn’t too far. With locations in northwest, southeast, southwest and north Portland, these brewpubs are a dog-lovers delight. Bring your four-legged friend to enjoy the complimentary dog treats while you sit at an outside table and enjoy one of the pub’s dog-themed beers, such as Black Lab Stout or Blue Dog Pale Ale.

Sleeping

A place that lets pets stay free? That’s a reality at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Portland. This whimsical downtown, dog-friendly hotel provides comfy beds plus bowls for your canine. Other options to treat your pooch include dog walking, pet sitting and even psychic readings.

  1. Mendocino, California

Eating

Enjoy international cuisine on the deck with your furry friend at The Mendocino Café. Options include hot Thai salad and fish tacos, as well as a nice selection of quality wines.

Choose Ravens Restaurant at Stanford Inn by the Sea to enjoy indoor vegan-style, 99% organic dining with your dog. Dogs and owners will enjoy sitting in the cozy lobby adjacent to the restaurant.

Sleeping

Stanford Inn by the Sea is also a fantastic pick for a dog-friendly stay — in an elegant setting. And while you’ll get complimentary cookies, your furry friend will get a homemade treat and dog dishes to use during your stay.

  1. Avon, Colorado

Eating

If you’re lucky, you can snag one of Blue Plate’s five outside tables that accommodate dog owners. There you can enjoy American cuisine, including Alaskan Sole, pork and veal offerings.

Or opt for the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch’s restaurant: WYLD. Ask for seating on the patio to allow your dog to dine alongside you. Fare includes steak, seafood, burgers, roasted chicken and pizza.

Sleeping

As one the best ski-in, ski-out resorts in the nation, Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch, situated on a mountain and surrounded by a national forest, has plenty to keep both you and your canine companion happy. Dog-friendly luxuries like a room service doggy menu featuring dog-friendly meals and desserts, in-room pet massage and overstuffed dog beds will have your dog never wanting to leave.

  1. Scottsdale, Arizona

Eating

You know your pooch is a priority when a wait staffer delivers a water bowl upon your arrival. Although you can bring your dog anytime, go after dark and enjoy AZ 88’s dog-friendly patio seating under the stars. Offerings include items, such as smoked salmon, dragon wings and cheeseburgers.

For a doggy-friendly, longtime family-owned restaurant serving comfort food, visit Randy’s Restaurant. You and your dog can dine al fresco. Plus, the waitstaff is known to take a special interest in canine guests by bringing water and taking the time to find out your pooch’s name.

Sleeping

If desert vistas make you happy, The Hyatt Regency is a good pick for you and your pet. Not only will you enjoy perks like gourmet cuisine and entertainment each night, but this luxury resort also has a 4paws program that spoils dogs. Your canine will enjoy a custom-made bed with fleece pillows and a pet-friendly menu, featuring meals and desserts.

This is good information to have. Sometimes, people with pets have to plan every stop before they leave home because they have to find places their pets will be welcome.

I enjoyed reading your post about our pets. They should be included in family trips and I’m going to keep this information in mind when planning our next trip with our two family dogs. I’ll also pass along this valuable information!

I’ve heard of a couple of these places, but not the others. Good to know. We are hoping to get a dog when we move, and would want to vacation where doggies are going to have a good time, too!
