Creating an Outdoor Space for Family Time

Backyards no matter how large or small are wonderful havens where the family can gather together and create memories outside. But if your yard is just trees, shrubs and dirt, you can easily transform it into a backyard where you children can play and adults can relax in. The following are unique ideas that are sure to please every member of your family.

Implement a Plan

Spending quality time with the family is important whether you’re traveling on vacation or staying within the comfort of your home. If you decide to not stray far from your backyard, you’ll want to design outdoor space where you can take refuge. Gather the family together to determine how each member would like to use the space. Make a list of the things that are important such as a garden, play area for the children or patio where you can entertain family and friends. If you enjoy cooking, there are also unique features where you can create a backyard barbecue and pizza oven.

If you aren’t sure what you want or how you want it then expert garden service by Madera arborists is your best option.

Set Aside Space to Play

Although you may have plans for a vegetable garden, shrubbery and flowers, you don’t want your entire yard to be off limits to your children. Set aside outdoor space where your kids can also roam and play. If you’re worried about them trampling your grass, synthetic grass is easy to maintain, looks beautiful and doesn’t require watering or mowing. Your children can play baseball and other yard games from the comfort of your yard, and you don’t have to worry about the damage done to your lawn. If you don’t want to give over your entire backyard space, designate a certain area for your children to play.

Include a DIY Project

DIY projects are even more special when you include the entire family. Whether it’s a swing set, sand play box, bird house, planters or vegetable garden, involve your children in your idea planning. Building something together instills a sense of pride. It also teaches them various skillsets such as working with their hands. While the store bought items are easy to set up, you can reduce costs significantly when you build certain projects on your own. It also makes your outdoor space one-of-a-kind.

Incorporate Plants

Plants are a great way to decorate your outdoor living space. It can also be an interesting hobby to share with your children. If you’re looking to liven things up with brilliant hues, plant a variety of flowers set to bloom seasonally. If you want to teach your children the wonders of growing your own vegetation, you can plant herbs, fruit trees, berries and vegetables. If you’re on limited space, you can set up a patio garden using planters, boxes and hanging baskets. To go with your current decorating theme, you can paint the pots in various colors to match your furniture, rugs and cushions.

Personalize Your Style

Once you’ve decided on the right plan for your outdoor backyard, you want to personalize your space to match your lifestyle and tastes. Choose furnishings that are fun and stylish. Your local outdoor retailer should have an array of essentials to choose from. Stick to a neutral pallet and incorporate bold accent pieces in the way of cushions, dishes, glasses and plates. Whatever you choose, make sure they fit within your budget and are functional. You can also go crazy with other accessories such as candles, place mats, table cloths and lanterns. You can also mix and match patterns and colors, as long as they go together.

Create a Relaxing Vibe

While you want each member of your family to enjoy the outdoors, you want to ensure there is room to relax and unwind. This respite from the daily grind and busyness should include something for everyone. If you want some quiet time for children where they can go to read, how about a fort or teepee? A hammock set beneath the trees or lounging furniture are outdoor pieces where adults can come to recharge batteries.

If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you want your backyard space to be able to support your activities. With some thought, planning and creativity, you can transform your outdoor digs into an oasis your entire family will love.

I love plants and flowers. I just can’t grow them. I have a terribly black thumb. I did plant bulbs which don’t require much to grow.
