Bad Habits That Could Be Ruining Your Life

So many people don’t realize that they have an abundance of bad habits. Many people do these things without realizing. You don’t have to be perfect 100% of the time. In fact, attempting to be perfect will likely only put more stress on you in the long run. However, you should be more mindful and aware of these bad habits. If you do them too often, they could definitely be impacting your life in a negative way:

Using Negative Language

You probably don’t realize just how much of an impact negative language can have on your life. The more negative you speak about yourself and your life, the more you’re likely to draw those things to yourself. It might sound crazy, but it’s true. Many people believe that the more you focus on the negative in your life, the more you experience those negative things. Some believe this is just because you’re focusing on them more. Some believe it’s because ‘what you think, you attract’. What you choose to believe is up to you. Try not complaining for an hour. Then try a day. Stop yourself when you go to think a self depreciating thought, or complain about someone/something. You won’t believe the impact that this can have on your life!

Not Getting Quality Sleep

Quality sleep is just as important as the amount you get. It’s all well and good getting 8 hours a night, but if you’re constantly waking up during the night, then it just isn’t good enough. You’ll know if your sleep is high quality enough by how you feel in the morning. Make an effort to wind down more before bed, staying away from bright lights and doing what you can to relax. It should make a big difference, and you’ll be far more productive the next day.

Indulging In Too Many Processed Foods

Processed foods and fast foods can be eaten in moderation. It would be totally unrealistic to say you can’t ever eat them again, and will probably make you want to eat them more. Just be mindful and choose your moments. Your diet should be full of healthy, whole foods the majority of the time. These foods will make you feel healthy and energized. Pay more attention to how you feel after eating rubbish foods, and you probably won’t want to eat them so often.

You shouldn’t just pay more attention to your diet because of the way you look. It’s all about your health too. You might be naturally slim, but eating lots of processed foods could cause damage to your heart, stomach, and more.

Drinking Too Much Alcohol

Pay more attention to how much alcohol you’re drinking. If you’re having a few drinks every night, or even most nights, this could be impacting your health in a big way. It can be hard to quit, so you might find it easier to speak to somebody you trust, or get professional health. There are rehabs you can visit that can give you a break; visit their site and see what you get when you go for treatment. Surely anything is better than losing your health, money, looks, and loved ones to alcohol?

Being Passive Aggressive

You might not think that you’re an aggressive or angry person, but being passive aggressive is a whole different ball game. In fact, some might say that being passive aggressive is worse than expressing your anger authentically. When you’re being passive aggressive, you might give a loved one the cold shoulder, or be ‘off’ with them without telling them why. It’s so much better to get things out in the open. Being passive aggressive is not only harming the people around you, but you too.

Stressing Out

Stress can be a huge factor in declining mental health. If you have a stressful workload or even a stressful home life, you need to find ways to manage your stress. You could meditate, take long baths, go for walks, take deep breaths – anything that helps you to control those stressful thoughts and feelings. Maybe you could even stop spending time with negative people, or ask for less work. Your mental health is one of the most important things to take care of!

Procrastinating

Procrastinating is a huge problem. If you find yourself getting easily distracted and always being late with work and projects, you’re not alone. Procrastination is down to not wanting to start a certain task or project. It causes you pain in someway. If you’re having trouble, it’s possible that you need to reconsider your work life. It could simply be that you just need to get used to forcing yourself to get started. Getting started can be the hardest part. If you get your hardest task done at the start of the day, then the rest of the day will seem much easier. People are generally more productive in the morning, but making a note of when you’re more productive will be a big help. You might find that exercising in the morning and then going to work or starting your day serves you much better.

Sitting Down All Day

Humans weren’t meant to sit down all day. They were built to hunt and gather. Even if you have a desk job, you should make more of an effort to take more steps. Stand up, have a stretch. Maybe even go for a short walk. When you sit back down, you’ll feel more focused and energized to continue your work. You could even get a stand up desk if you’re serious about health and fitness!

Getting Too Much Screen Time

How much time do you spend with your eyes on a screen? Maybe you work on the computer, spend a lot of time on your smartphone and watch TV when you get home. So many people are living virtual lives these days! Make more of an effort to enjoy the real world, and see your friends and family for real. Some people like to have a ‘screen and social media detox’ for around a week too. You’ll get so much more done this way!
