Just in time for back to school I received a tote full of goodies great for using during the upcoming school year spanning from food, household supplies, beauty, to even items designed for babies. The collection of products come especially handpicked from Target’s Made to Matter program and include some of the best in natural, organic, and sustainable brands. Each product in the collection is made with simple and recognizable ingredients. The brands are purpose-driven to be friendly to the environment and of higher quality. The best thing is they all can be found at Target, making them easy to purchase during your next shopping trip.

Making the Target Made to Matter List

Not any product can make the Target Made to Matter list! In order for product to be included in the program it has to meet one or more of the five important criteria, outlined below.

Reduced waste and packaging, which meets the rising consumer demand for eco-friendly products that limit waste. Right now, 50 percent of U.S. waste is comprised of product packaging.

Closed loop systems, which utilize a production system where the excess of one process or product is used to make another product. U.S. waste has tripled since 1960 and the average U.S. resident produces 1600 pounds of waste but only recycles or composts 35 percent of it.

Clean label products that are made without additives and harsh chemicals.

Dietary and allergen restrictions that accommodate the growing commonality of specialized diets and food allergies. According to a study released in 2013 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, food allergies among children increased approximately 50 percent between 1997 and 2011.

Reduced sugar—plain and simple! In 1822, the average American consumed 45 grams of sugar—the amount found in one of today’s 12-oz. sodas—every five days. Today, the average American consumes that much every seven hours.

When I opened the tote to view the products, I recognized most of the brands in it. They are the best of the best in organic consumer items. Last but certainly not least in my recommended tote of products is Nature’s Path Organic EnviroKidz Granola Bars. This little gem was hiding in my bag and found later, so it isn’t pictured above. However, it is a fantastic item to have for packing lunches! They are great for sending to school, since they are completely peanut-free and perfect for avoiding allergens. Yummy bars are made with gluten-free rolled oats, chocolate chips, and chocolate drizzle.
