The world of Cars takes flight in Planes, Disney’s high-flying animated comedy revved up with action and adventure.  Join Dusty, a crop duster with sky-high dreams and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take on the world’s fastest flyers in the greatest air race ever. Dusty has a huge heart but two big problems…he’s not exactly built for speed, plus he’s afraid of heights.  His courage is put to the ultimate test as this unlikely hero aims higher than he ever imagined. With a little help from his friends, Dusty finds the courage to be more than he was built for—and the inspiration to soar.

Directed by Klay Hall (“King of the Hill,” “The Simpsons”), produced by Traci Balthazor-Flynn (“Return to Never Land,” “Bambi II,” “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning”) and written by Jeffrey M. Howard (“Tinker Bell,” “Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue”).

A Fun Flying Adventure

planes logo

Welcome to the world above Cars where Disney PLANES exist!  My family received an advanced Blu-ray Combo Pack and sat down to watch the movie a few days ago for the first time.  If you have seen Cars and liked it you are going to love Disney PLANES.  It is basically the same concept as Cars, except now there are Planes added to the imaginative world without humans.  The film takes you on a fun flying adventure and is about Dusty Crophopper, a small crop duster who dreams of racing and likes to practices aerobatic maneuvers every chance he gets.  Going against the advice of his friends, Dusty decides to soar to new levels by entering the upcoming Wings Across the World race.  Dusty is not built for speed, but we soon learn he has even a bigger problem—he is afraid of heights!  However, the little plane that could learns to overcome his obstacles with the strong determination to win and the help of old Navy Corsair, Skipper Riley along with a few new friends he meets at the race.

The movie was a flashback of watching a combination of Cars and Cars 2.  The Disney PLANES personalities where very similar to Cars and the fun international adoption of racers coming from all over the world to compete in Cars 2 made its way into Disney PLANES.  There was even a bit of romance thrown in between Mexican plane named El Chupacabra and Canadian plane named Rochelle,  plus a bit of humor as well.

What really sets the movies apart is the amazing spot on animation in Disney PLANES! The life like imagery in Disney PLANES is crisp and gets the viewer enthralled within the movie.  Several scenes took my breath away!  Undoubtedly, the film would be spectacular on 3D Blu-ray and I am thinking about renting a copy as soon as it flies into my local video store just to watch what depth it has to offer.

The conclusion is Disney PLANES is a fantastic family rated PG (“G” in Canada) movie both adults and children will enjoy.  The characters are loveable and the animation is incredible.  Disney fans will be entertained to new heights with unpredictable events that take place towards the ending, which keeps them on the edge of their seat.   Also, the movie showed several boats, but no elaboration.  Could there be a Disney BOATS movie in the making?

Keep watching for the sequel Disney Planes: Fire & Rescue predicted to be out in 2014!

Buy It For The Holidays!

On November 19th, Disney PLANES will be available as a Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack (Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray+ DVD + Digital Copy), a Blu-ray Combo Pack (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy), a DVD (DVD + Digital Copy), Digital HD and On-Demand.

I can’t wait to see this! I always love to see the “bonus” material that’s included on home DVDs/Blueray. The deleted scenes add so much, some how. I know they have to edit, and come in under a certain amount of minutes, but don’t don’t you wonder, sometimes, “Why did they cut THAT scene? It explains everything”?
