Metrohippymom Designs Beautiful Peace Necklace Giveaway!

Recently I was introduced to a wonderful Etsy shop called Metrohippymom Designs.  The shop features gorgeous handmade jewelry that reflects the beauty of our earth with each fashionable necklace being a subtle reminder to hold peace within our hearts. LOVE IT!  I had the pleasure of asking the owner Crystal Halliwell what inspired her to create such beautiful jewelry and how  she got strarted.   Here is what she had to say…

It all started with a beautiful strand of beads.

There’s a great little stretch of stores in my city, known for unique boutiques, funky toys/gifts, fantastic restaurants and more. As you walk down the street, you’ll find the Rastafarian guy selling his wares, and five feet away, an upscale cutting-edge salon where a cut will run you at least $100.

I used to live two blocks over from the area and forgot how much I loved it until I meandered through one day, killing time before an appointment.

One of my favorite stores to wander into is a little bead shop. Even before I made jewelry, I loved walking through, touching hundreds of strands of beautiful beads of every stone, shell or other medium imaginable.

This time, I ran across a strand of gorgeous multi-colored jade peace symbols. It was the only strand they had, and it was mine within 5 minutes!

I had no idea what I would do with it; I just knew that those beads needed me and something special would happen if I bought them.

Within a few days I wandered into a craft store and found beautiful tiny sterling silver peace symbols. In my mind’s eye, I saw my first creation!

My inner hippy chick adores the peace symbol and always has…however, it’s been my experience that a lot of jewelry featuring it has been plastic, or just metal (and not colorful). I wanted something that was heavier, a nice stone peace symbol, and the addition of the little sterling silver symbol on top is just icing on the cake…highlighting the beauty of the stone beneath.

So… it started with one strand of beads…and the peace necklace was born! From there, my imagination went wild, yet I wanted to try to stay close to my vision- necklaces that portray the beauty of our planet and remind us to hold peace in our hearts.
