I love Easter, it is a huge deal with my family. All the adult children and their spouses still have an egg hunt at my mom’s house. It is the best because the eggs are full of $

I love the movie Bambi, but to this day I still feel sad when I think about Bambi’s Mom. Such a sad way to start his little life, Guess it’s because I lost my Mom too soon also. But I want my kids and grandkids to see the movie it’s so adorable.

My friends once did a fun Easter activity once their kids hit about twelve years old. They had a reverse Easter Egg hunt. That means the kids hid the eggs and the parents had to find them. The parents were told how many eggs were hid and for however many they didn’t find, they owed the kids a dollar a piece. Those kids hid them pretty good the parents said. They owed them some money when they finally gave up looking. Then the tweens had to go around and show the parents where the ones where that they hadn’t found. They called it a reverse Easter Egg hunt.

    Mini Poem:
The girl Easter bunny wanted a piece of celery to eat,
but the boy Easter bunny said not until you wash your hands and feet.
The girl Easter bunny said they look clean and smell sweet,
but the bluebirds in the sky said wash, wash, wash, tweet, tweet, tweet.
The boy Easter bunny said, germs you can not see,
and you don’t know what you just stepped in hopping under that tree.
The worm popped his head up under the ground,
and said little Easter bunny girl I wish you could see some of the things that I’ve found.
Okay, Okay, already the Easter bunny girl said,
I’ll wash right now, before any more of your words start hopping about in my head.
So while she went and washed the germs away,
her brother and mother made her a good vegetable breakfast to start off her Easter day in a healthy way.

    Easter Poetry
    ~~
Easter comes but once a year

Easter comes but once a year
But when it does, we all know its here
    Children filling themselves with chocolate
Dad’s down the pub for a pint of beer!

We go to the church for the wine and bread
Dad’s half asleep, and jerking his head
Baby sister is here too, munching away
On the free Easter egg that the Priest gave us today

But remember we must, that the Lord died for us
And ascended into heaven to give us fresh lives
For each and every one of us.

    Easter Bunny Hugs And Kisses

That cute little bunny has hopped all day,
    delivering baskets for the holiday.
His paws are so tired and his nose how it itches,
He left you something special to fulfill all your wishes-
Lots of cute little Easter bunny hugs and kisses.

    His Love

God sent His Son to take the punishment
    For all the thoughtless, sinful things we do;
    Jesus gave his life because He loves us;
His love is boundless, sweet, forever true.

    On Easter morn He showed He is our Savior;
His resurrection proves He is our Lord.
That is why we tell you, “Happy Easter!”
    He secured our heavenly reward!

    Celebrate Our Savior

    On Easter morn, we celebrate our Savior;
Whatever people seek in Him, they find.
In history, there has never been another
So holy, sacrificial, good and kind.

    His resurrection makes us all immortal;
In heaven, we’ll be together with our King.
    Eternally we’ll share in all His blessings;

I have taught my 4 year old granddaughter the true meaning of Easter, she attends church with my husband and I every Sunday, she knows who Jesus is and that Jesus died on Good Friday and rose again on Easter Sunday, since she is only 4 years old, she asked a lot of questions but I truly think she understands. She is very very sweet.

My granddaughter still believes in the Easter bunny and somehow, we didn’t confuse her at all with the true meaning of Easter and the bunny rabbit Easter. We have an Easter egg and basket and gift hunt every Saturday before Easter. Carley loves it and looks forward to it every year. Funny, she’s only 4 and still remembers (as she says, when she was a baby) the hunt we had when she was only 2.

My husband and I will attend church on Good Friday (we attend church every Friday for the Stations of the Cross). On Good Friday, it’s a two hour mass followed by a black out in the church where all the lights go out, we will sit in the dark for only a few minutes and everyone leaves in silent. It’s a very touching moment and I always cry.

    Easter egg pinatas!
Fill several small plastic eggs with jelly beans, nuts, or small candies and hang them just above the heads of the kids. A ribbon placed in the egg as it is closed works well. Place a sheet below the eggs to catch the loot. Blindfold kids one at a time and give them a short stick to swing at the collection of eggs. Each child keeps candy that falls on their swing.

    easter egg curling!
The object of this game is to get as close to the egg at the center of a circle without touching it. Draw concentric circles in chalk around an egg and have kids roll eggs from the largest outside circle. You are out of the game if you touch the center egg or break your own egg.

    Blown Egg Races!!!

This race uses eggs with their insides blown out! Place these lightweight eggs on a flat surface like a table or plywood. Give each contestant a straw. Contestants must race their egg to a finish line at the other end of the table using nothing but air through the straw. More difficult than it sounds!

    Easter Basket Swings!
Tie a rope to the handle of a basket and hang the basket from a low tree limb. Fill plastic eggs with bird seed or sand and tape them closed. Party guests can toss the weighted eggs into the basket.

  137. lilshuga2001 says

    2011/04/12 at 6:36 pm

I also like: Humpty’s Easter Challenge
It is a game that works well for younger kids who are learning their colors. Separate the halves of a dozen plastic eggs of different colors and place these in a bowl. Place an empty egg carton nearby for completed eggs. Give each child a chance to race against the clock and put the eggs back together again.
For extra challenge, place the egg carton a short distance away and have kids deliver each egg as it is completed and then run back to work on the next broken egg.

    Flying Eggs!!!
This works best if all the pairs are in a row. Contestants toss a dyed or raw egg to their partner. With a completed toss each person takes a step away from their partner to increase the distance. The toss is repeated. Dropping your egg or breaking it will disqualify the pair

  139. lilshuga2001 says

    2011/04/12 at 6:38 pm

An Easter egg hunt can become a scavenger hunt if you fill plastic eggs with clues that lead hunters from one place to another. On small slips of paper write clues similar to “Find the dog’s home and search for an egg, not his bone.”

  140. lilshuga2001 says

    2011/04/12 at 6:39 pm

The rabbit is a favorite feature of Easter… and adding a bit of hopping can make anything an Easter game!
Supplies and Set-Up: To play the Easter Egg Hop, cut large eggs from cardboard (you’ll want to make three for every two kids) and have the kids color them with crayons or paints beforehand.

How to Play: Children pair up and are given three eggs for each pair in the race. Each pair starts by standing on one egg per person and holding their third egg. The free egg is then placed on the ground ahead so one partner can hop onto it. The newly freed egg on the ground is moved out in front of the partners so one of them can hop forward toward the finish line. Partners continue leapfrogging like this until one pair crosses the finish with all their eggs.
Making it a Race: The bunny hop can be made into a race very easily.

Create a starting line and finish line with chalk or a rope in the grass. The kids should show their best bunny hop as they move race toward the finish. Too easy for your kids? Try using a duck’s waddle! Kids squat down on the starting line and grab their right ankle with their right hand and left ankle with their left hand. Then they waddle like a duck to finish the race.

Create a Bingo card with pictures for younger kids or words for older ones. The card should include signs of spring like growing grass or flowers as well as Easter icons like eggs, rabbits, or baskets. Give each child a marker and a Bunny Bingo page for a car trip or during a pause in other activities. The first child to get all of the items wins a prize

  142. lilshuga2001 says

    2011/04/12 at 6:41 pm

Save your Easter cookie decorating for your party! Cut sugar cookie dough into egg shapes and bake them up before your party. Provide icing, colored sugars and small candies to encourage children to make Easter shaped treats. Each child should have a paper plate to work on. Examples of rabbit faces or striped eggs will help your artists get the idea.

We always color eggs the day before Easter – both kids do two dozen eggs. The next morning the “Easter Bunny” hides them around the house before the kids get up for the kids to find after waking. One year the dog “found” several of them before everyone got up. What a mess!

The color used in painting Easter eggs differ in different nations. Orthodox Grecians paint their eggs red to symbolize the blood of Christ, some Germans and Austrians paint their eggs green adn use them on Holy Thursday. Slavic peoples docorate their eggs in gold and silver patterns.

Easter comes but once a yearBut when it does, we all know its here
    Children filling themselves with chocolate
Dad’s down the pub for a pint of beer!

We go to the church for the wine and bread
Dad’s half asleep, and jerking his head
Baby sister is here too, munching away
On the fee Easter egg that the Priest gave us today.

But remember we must, that the Lord died for us
And ascended into heaven to give us fresh lives
For each and every one of us.

Our Greek Easter is called Pas-ha, and another tradition that we have on Easter is called Tsougrisma. It involves two people and red eggs. Each person holds their red egg and one taps the end of theirs lightly against the others egg. The goal is to crack the other person’s egg! The person who cracks the other persons egg is the winner, and is said to have good luck all year. It is so fun!

    Hi loved and died

When He was being beaten and spat upon
When His flesh was being torn by the whip
    When His back was scourged,
Then he saw me being baptized
and so He permitted them to do so.

When the crown was crushed into His head
When He tasted His own blood
When the thorns pierced HIs flesh,
    Then He saw me praying
and so He killed them not.

When His cross was so heavy that he fell
When He carried wood on His torn flesh
When He wished simply to move no more,
Then He saw me in confession,
and so He got up and walked on.

When His hands were being pierced
When He hung from a cross
    When HIs side was bellding,
Then He said I love YOU
    and so He died.

A popular symbol of the Easter festival, the white lily is held as the traditional Easter Flower. The single flower stem originating from a bulb represents the resurrection of Christ three days after his apparent death by crucifixion. Legend has it that white lilies were grown at the place where drops of blood fell from Jesus Christ’s body. Some Catholic nations regard white lilies as the symbol of the purity and divinity of Jesus Christ and dedicate them to his mother, Virgin Mary. This is the reason why churches are decorated with white lilies during Easter.

Easter is very exciting for our family, we always decorate the hard boiled eggs to hunt (and eat later). Have a family dinner and visit with family. The following poem I thought was so dear to Easter that I couldn’t go without posting it!

Here is a question that I’ve been dying to ask,
What is the right style for a proper Easter basket?

Should it be round or oval or square?
Should it be homemade or purchased somewhere?

Would an old milk carton, cut in half
Be ok, or just cause people to laugh?

Should the artificial grass be green, pink or blue?
How do I know what’s the right thing to do?

But whether the basket is brand new or old
The key question is, how much candy will it hold?

    Easter Egg
The egg is an ancient universal symbol of new life and has
been associated with pagan festivals that celebrated spring.
For Christians, it can represent Jesus’ emergence from the
    tomb and resurrection.

Decorating eggs is a tradition that dates to at least the
13th century. One explanation for the custom is that eggs
were formerly a forbidden food during the Lenten season.
People would instead decorate them to mark the end of the
penance period and fasting, and then eat them on Easter to
    celebrate.

    Easter Traditions

Eating Ham- Before the invention of refrigeration, mankind

    Easter Traditions

Colors- The use of color is a popular Easter tradition. Green is said to represent Spring and the rebirth of the Earth. Red
is a symbol of Christ’s blood. White represents purity and birth. Yellow is for light and purity. Orange is for endurance and strength. Brown stands for Mother Earth and her many gifts. Blue is for the blue skies of air. Purple represents fasting. It is believed that many colors used in combination represents the burst of color brought forth when plants begin to bloom and trees begin to leaf.

At Easter In Germany, eggs used for cooking are not broken but are emptied by blowing the contents into a bowl through pinholes
at either end of the hen’s egg. The hollow eggs are then died and hung from shrubs and trees during Easter week.
They have an egg tree. This is a small tree branch put in a vase about two weeks before Easter. Real eggs that have been
painted and decorated are hung from the branches. Other small, highly decorated eggs the family has collected are also hung on the tree.

    Back in Germany Easter Traditions

Children play a game called Chocolate Kiss
Chocolate Kiss is played with chocolate-covered marshmallows.

The object of the game is to gobble up marshmallows without allowing others to smear your face with the chocolate. The winner is the person who can eat the most chocolate marshmallows with the cleanest face.

For Good Friday on Greek Orthodox Easter we have something called the Epitafios. It is decorated with beautiful flowers, and symbolizes Christs tomb. It is then carried around the church outside. If you get a chance I am sure you can find something on Youtube about it. It is just beautiful.

    Funny Bunny
    by Grandpa Tucker

    Little Easter, the comedienne bunny,
Tried too hard at being funny.
She juggled and she dropped the eggs
They fell and smashed between her legs.
Poor Easter left the stage in shame
And thought that she might change her name.
But then that bunny read this ad,
“This Sunday we need help real bad.”
So Easter Bunny kept her name
And through the years has gained much fame,
When Easter’s Sunday comes each year.
She delivers eggs and we all cheer.

  645. Karen Propes says

    2011/04/14 at 7:29 pm

The Easter Bunny- Some consider him a distant cousin of Santa Claus, both deliver candy and toys to children on the eve of a major holiday. Rabbits are an ancient symbol of fertility and new life, and as such, are the perfect spokesanimal for the arrival of Spring. It is believed the Easter Bunny arrived in America with German immigrants, who referred to
him as “Osterhase”. Osterhase was an egg laying hare who visited children and left brightly colored eggs in nests the
    children built for him.

Easter Eggs- Eggs are also a symbol of fertility and have linked back to ancient Pagan celebrations welcoming the
arrival of Spring. From a Christian point of view, eggs are said to represent Christ’s emergence from the cave. Eggs were
once a forbidden food during Lenten, so they would be decorated and saved until Easter Sunday, when they could be
    eaten.

Hot Cross Buns- It is believed that Hot Cross Buns originated with the Pagan celebration of Ostara (the arrival of Spring). They are traditoinally decorated with a white cross, said the represent Christ’s crucifixion. Many superstitions follow the buns: some say a bun baked on Good Friday will not mold for the remainder of the year, sharing a bun with another is said to ensure friendship through the coming year, buns are purported to protect against shipwrecks and if hung in the kitchen, perfectly baked buns are to protect against fire.

    The Easter Parade

What shall I wear for the Easter Parade?
A dress that’s the color of marmalade
    With a border embroidered
    in light blue cornflowers
Like the edge of a meadow
    after spring showers
    And a matching hat round
as a top you can spin
And elastic to hold it on under my chin
    And brand-new shoes
    whiter than newly-poured cream
    With heart-shaped,
    golden buckles that gleam;
And I’ll carry a small purse
    of butterfly blue
With a penny for me and a penny for you
To buy us both glasses of cold lemonade
When we walk, hand in hand,
    in the Easter Parade.

    The Lamb-
It was said that the devil was allowed to take the form of any animal except for the lamb because of its
religious symbolism. It is believed that meeting a lamb forteold of luck. In some Christian sects, the lamb is used to represent Jesus.

I never knew this about the date Easter falls on:
    Date of Easter
The method for determining the date of Easter is complex and has been a matter of controversy , Put as simply as possible, the Western churches (Catholic and Protestant) celebrate Easter on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox.

But it is actually a bit more complicated than this. The spring equinox is fixed for this purpose as March 21 (in
2004, it actually falls on March 20) and the “full moon” is actually the paschal moon, which is based on 84-year “paschal cycles” established in the sixth century, and rarely corresponds to the astronomical full moon. These complex
calculations yield an Easter date of anywhere between March 22 and April 25.

The Eastern churches (Greek, Russian, and other forms of Orthodoxy) use the same calculation, but based on the Julian
calendar (on which March 21 is April 3) and a 19-year paschal cycle.

Thus the Orthodox Easter sometimes falls on the same day as the western Easter (it does in 2010 and 2011), but the two
celebrations can occur as much as five weeks apart. In the 20th century, discussions began as to a possible
worldwide agreement on a consistent date for the celebration of the central event of Christianity. No resolution has yet
    been reached.

    Deer memories…

As a little girl, I always dressed up for Easter,
and we went to see” Bambi” one year.
It was new at the theater, and I couldn’t wait to see it,
The animals were larger than life and so dear!

Now I am older, and I take a little child for walks in the park,
And we see the deer at the edge of the forest,
peaceful in the shadows, family with fawns,
And we share the beauty, it is the best!

The 1st Easter I remember, after Church we went to my Grandma’s house and my Dad hid candy eggs for us to find. I was so proud of my Dad helping us kids have a good time. I also remember at Store parking lots, you could buy colored Chicks, now I know how sad that was to put them through all that, but we got one for each of us kids, and put in a cardboard box next to the heater. We fed them and loved on them. They would eventually die, now I know better how inhumane that was for the poor little chicks.

When I was eight years old we got a rabbit for Easter. So cuddly and soft, he grew so big. His house was outside our house and when he was bigger you couldn’t just sit him on the ground, he was so fast he would hop away. My Parents would have to chase him and throw a towel over him to pick him up. His claws were sharp!!!!!! We would take him to our Grandparents Farm and let him hop around and lay on the ground and play with him. We finally let him live on the farm. The city was not a place for a hoppy bunny. But we visited him every weekend. He mated and then we had little bunnies…. Bunnies are so sweet!

    Easter Is The Gift…

Easter is the gift of HOPE
Easter is the gift of PEACE
Easter is the gift of LOVE
    Let us rejoice in Him,
    Who gives them all.

May God bless you at Easter,
And keep you all year through.
May God give you all the faith it takes,
To make your dreams come true.
May His love and wisdom always help,
To guide you on your way.
May His light shine down upon you now,
    To bless your Easter Day.

    Popular Easter Customs

Over the centuries, these religious observances have been supplemented by popular customs, many of were incorporated
from springtime fertility celebrations of European and Middle Eastern pagan religion. Rabbits and eggs, for example, are
widely-used pagan symbols for fertility. Christians view the Easter eggs as symbols of joy and celebration (as they were
forbidden during the fast of Lent) and of new life and resurrection. A common custom is to hide brightly colored
    eggs for children to find.

  833. Karen Propes says

    2011/04/15 at 10:07 pm

According to University of Florida’s Center for Children’s Literature and Culture, the origin of the celebration — and the Easter bunny — can be traced back to 13th century, pre-Christian Germany, when people worshiped several gods and goddesses. The Teutonic deity Eostra was the goddess of spring and fertility, and feasts were held in her honor on the Vernal Equinox. Her symbol was the rabbit because of the animal’s high reproduction rate.

    The Easter Bunny
    by M. Josephine Todd, 1909

    There’s a story quite funny,
    About a toy bunny,
    And the wonderful things she can do;
    Every bright Easter morning,
    Without warning,
She colors eggs, red, green, or blue.

    Some she covers with spots,
    Some with quaint little dots,
And some with strange mixed colors, too —
Red and green, blue and yellow,
    But each unlike his fellow
    Are eggs of every hue.

And it’s odd, as folks say,
    That on no other day
In all of the whole year through,
    Does this wonderful bunny,
    So busy and funny,
    Color eggs of every hue.

    If this story you doubt
She will soon find you out,
And what do you think she will do?
    On the next Easter morning
    She’ll bring you without warning,
    Those eggs of every hue.

  836. Maria Malaveci says

    2011/04/15 at 10:12 pm

Easter is a time of rebirth. When hope can be seen in the wings of a butterfly.
When the grey of winter comes alive with the newness of spring
when all of nature seems to celebrate the wonder of life itself.

    Easter

There is evidence that Christians originally celebrated the resurrection of Christ every Sunday, with observances such as
Scripture readings, psalms, the Eucharist, and a prohibition against kneeling in prayer. {6} At some point in the first
two centuries, however, it became customary to celebrate the resurrection specially on one day each year. Many of the
religious observances of this celebration were taken from the Jewish Passover.

    Easter in Britain
In many parts of England dancers called “Morris dancers” perform on Easter Sunday. These dances are very old spring
dances to frighten away the veil spirits of winter. The dancers wear white shorts, red sashes, black trousers and
straw hats with lots of flowers and streamers. Red and green ribbons and little bells are tied onto the dancers. As the
dancers move quickly the bells ring and the ribbons wave.

    “Tis eggs of gold and eggs of blue;
I wonder that you ask it.

“Tis chocolate eggs and bonbon eggs
and eggs of red and gray,
For every child in every house
    on bonny Easter day.

    He perked his ears
    and winked his eye and twitched his little nose;
He shook his tail — what tail he had —
and stood up on his toes.

    “I must be gone before the sun;
    the east is growing gray;
Tis almost time for bells to chime.”
    — So he hippety-hopped away.

The tradition of chocolate Easter bunnies dates back to 19th-century America, which borrowed it—and the Easter Bunny in general—from Germany. Sales started to take off around 1890, after a Pennsylvania man named Robert L. Strohecker featured a 5-foot-tall chocolate rabbit in his drugstore as an Easter promotion. (Of course, that’s got nothing on the record-setting chocolate rabbit sculptors just completed in a South African shopping mall.)

    Chocolate Bunny and Hollow Molds

Hollow molds had entered the picture by 1939, when a newspaper advertisement mentions “hollow chocolate rabbits” sold for five cents each. The bunny business hit a snag in late 1942, when the War Production Board halted the manufacture of all such chocolate novelties, reasoning that cocoa rations should be saved for “staple civilian and military purposes, such as breakfast cocoa and candy bars.” (Ah, yes, the staples of life.)
After World War II, chocolate Easter bunnies returned to the States—as did a soldier named Richard Palmer, in search of an “interesting and novel” business, as Schlott tells it. Palmer founded his chocolate company in 1948, and was soon making a hollow Easter bunny named “Baby Binks” which, oddly enough, was inspired by a dog toy.

“Apparently, his dog at the time had a little bunny rabbit toy, and he looked at the shape and thought, ‘You know, that has kind of a whimsical personality; I could make a chocolate mold like that,’” Schlott says. “So he did, and it’s still in our line today.”

Easter Candy History: Why Are Chocolate Bunnies Hollow?

    From smithsonianmag.com

A colleague recently posed a thought-provoking question: why are so many chocolate Easter bunnies hollow? Isn’t it cruel to disappoint all those little kids, who will bite into what looks like a massive chunk of chocolate and be confronted with emptiness?

    Courtesy Flickr user Phil Scoville
The experience inspires a host of sermons and metaphors about how life is full of disappointments, why you shouldn’t judge by appearances, and so on. Chocolate bunnies can be, as this New York Times article puts it, “the child’s first taste of deception.”

Are candy makers conspiring to teach us a lesson?

Of course not. The answer is simple, according to one chocolate maker: hollow bunnies are easier to eat.

“If you had a larger-size bunny and it was solid chocolate, it would be like a brick; you’d be breaking teeth,” says Mark Schlott, vice-president of operations at R.M. Palmer in Reading, Pennsylvania, one of the first and largest manufacturers of hollow chocolate bunnies.

And, of course, hollow is usually cheaper to make, though Schlott phrases it more delicately: “Hollow has a greater perceived value. It creates a much greater chocolate footprint than solid.”
The company now makes about 25 million hollow chocolate bunnies each year, as well as smaller solid bunnies, cream eggs and other seasonally-themed candies. Schlott says sales of hollow bunnies have increased in the past two years, and he thinks it might be connected to the recession.

I love Thumper! The reason is because my daughter Anna is so crazy about him. She laughs he talks and she has memorized his speeches (eating greens is a special treat….). She also has a book about Thumper that she insists on sleeping with every night.

I love Easter because it is a chance to help my kids appreciate the reasons why we live the way we do. I realize not everyone celebrates Easter in a religious way, but being that it is a religious holiday and we are of the Christian faith, I love telling my kids a short but meaningful story each Easter of why we’re celebrating!

I seen this great idea I am going to do this year for easter. You take rice krispie treats and use a plastic easter egg as a mold. Make sure use make sure you leave it hollow to fill. Pop easter egg out of mold fill with m&ms jelly beans etc. put both halves together. Then I am going to write everybodies name on them and you them as placecards for dinner.
