What Are Your Thoughts On Motorcycles?

Harley

Have you ever seen the movie Wild Hogs?  I recently watched it and thought it was absolutely hilarious!  The flick is about four middle-aged suburban men in Cincinnati who ride their motorcycles around town and call themselves the Wild Hogs. Each one of the men is dealing with some sort of personal conflict and longing for  adventure to get away from the boring daily pace of life.  Doug Madsen (Tim Allen) is a dentist  having trouble staying on his strict diet and relating to his son who thinks he is lame.  Woody Stevens (John Travolta) is a lawyer getting a divorce from his supermodel wife and finds himself broke.  Bobby Davis (Martin Lawrence) is a plumber who had taken a year off work to pursue his dream of writing a book and his wife is nagging him to go back to work.  Dudley Frank (William H. Macy) is a successful computer programmer, but has serious issues talking to woman.  The four friends leave their problems behind and head out on the open road to California on their motorcycles.  They encounter a myriad of mischief,  which has you laughing the entire movie!

Wild Hogs truly got me contemplating about how exciting owning a motorcycle might be.  I’ve always wanted a Harley Davidson, but to tell the truth I’m a little bit frightened of the inability to handle the motorbike and losing control of it, ending in some kind of life altering accident.  My dad use to own a Harley while he was younger and loved it!  However, my mother made him give it up immediately after he fell off it.  Thankfully he didn’t get seriously injured!

Then there’s the horror stories you hear about motorcycle wrecks brought on by other drivers.  Car or truck drivers don’t always check blind spots or pay close attention to motorcycles every time they lane split and change lanes.  A further worry is definitely the unpredictability of road conditions which could turn ugly with virtually no warning such as loose stones, sand, or objects within the highway creating the motorcyclist  to lose control.  Being the individual’s only protection from injury is often a helmet and leather clothing, the accidents more often than not lead to a severe injury or worst yet—death!  I reckon that it is essential to know an experienced serious accident attorney or  motorcycle accident lawyer in the event something unexpected transpires to help you get the most money possible in settlement for your  financial needs as well as your suffering and pain.

Even knowing all the risks  I’m still thinking about looking into purchasing a motorcycle.  With the gas prices soaring and money being so tight, I’m thinking a motorcycle could save us money in the long run.  Plus, just the thought of the feeling of pure freedom from touring the open road on a bike puts a spark in my step!

What are your thoughts on motorcycles?  Would you ever want to own one or  let your husband ride a motorcycle?

I had dear friends of mine (years ago) get into a wreck while riding a motorcycle. Someone hit them. They both broke a lot of bones but luckily made full recoveries. Motorcycles scare me to death so I don’t think we would ever own one. You can be the best driver in the world but that doesn’t stop other idiots out there from hitting you and let’s face it, you have zero protection on a motorcycle. They look like fun though! 😉

I’ve own a few and I can tell you though it is fun and a thrill it is dangerous~! I’ve owned a 454 Kawasaki low rider right up to a 1200 Harley Sportster .You have to always watch for the other guy because they just don’t see you. I gave up riding when I got pregnant because I knew that every time I got on one I was taking a risk and I wanted to make sure I was here to raise my child not someone else. Now though I’m itching to ride again but due to my RA and other health problems it’s not a good idea. But I found something I really like and it has three wheels instead of two which appeals to me much better and it is called the “Spider” . I think it’s a lot safer even though you still have to watch for the other guy/gal drivers. Check them out. They are really cool looking because they have two wheels in front and one in back. They come in many colors too. I really liked the canary yellow ~!
