What to Look for When Buying a Convection Oven

When it comes to commercial cooking equipment, a convection oven is one of the most demanded equipment in the market. The kitchen looks incomplete without this oven. If you are planning to open a restaurant, a convection oven must be on your list. Running a successful business requires quality equipment in the kitchen and a convection oven can surely determine the growth of your business as much of the workload is dependent on it. If you think ovens are only used to heat food, you need to think again. Convection ovens have several astonishing features for you.

What is a Convection Oven?

Almost everybody has a conventional oven at their home which is used for baking and other stuff. However, a convection oven is famous for its speed and efficiency as they utilize fans to spread the heat in the space of the oven. Due to this, food is cooked 35% faster in convection ovens. As this oven is speedy, less labor is required in the kitchen. The high-speed fan in the cavity of the oven makes it different from the others.

Bake in a convection oven is much tastier as the heated air creates consistent heat in the oven. Large roasting and baking operations are easily done with convection ovens. If you love eating crispy brownish baked food, this is surely for you. However, these ovens are for bigger operations and are less suitable for heating food or making food that is to be left delicate, as excessive heat might hamper the taste.

Types of Convection Oven

There’s always a variety in kitchen appliances, the same is the case with convection ovens. Here are the types of convection ovens;

Countertop & Floor

As convection ovens are meant for heavy-duty, it is important to put them in the right place in the kitchen. Well, if you have a big kitchen with an ample amount of space, floor models can suit you. They usually come as a single or double stack. Floor models are also a bit more efficient than countertop models, due to their big cavities. However, if your kitchen has limited space, countertop models can fulfill the needs of the kitchen. Quick serve restaurants with a high demand for cookies can benefit from this the most. In case you’re still confused, check credible online vendors to buy the most suitable commercial convection oven for your kitchen.

Gas & Electric

One of the biggest debates when buying an oven is regarding gas or electricity. Gas ovens have been on the market for several years and electric ovens are comparatively a new product. However, gas models also require an electric connection to complete the operations. As fans and digital displays can’t run on gas. However, electric convection ovens are also remarkable when it comes to performance. Before buying an electric convection oven, make sure to check the voltage required in your kitchen.

Full-Size or Half-Size

Same as countertop models, the half-size ovens are also a suitable option for kitchens with less space, but keep in mind that the output would also be limited. Kitchens with wide space and excessive workload can get full-size ovens as they can accept much bigger pans and have great output too.

Features of Convection oven

Features to consider before buying

Here are some of the features you should keep in consideration before buying a convection oven;

Doors

In convection ovens, there’s also variety in terms of doors. They either come with tempered glass or solid metal. Most kitchen owners prefer tempered glass doors as they allow the cook to view the food while it’s in the oven. You can watch your food change colors. However, solid doors have their benefits such as high durability. They have better heat retention and last much longer than glass doors. With a solid metal door, you would have to open it several times to check on your food, which can ultimately result in heat loss.

Apart from the material of the door, dependent and independent doors have different functions to play. The doors which open with a single handle are known as dependent doors whereas independent doors have separate handles and you would need to use both of your hands to open them. Dependent doors are much more convenient.

Interior

The majority of the commercial convection ovens are made of aluminized steel as it is one of the most economical options to choose. Aluminized steel has remarkable durability too. Yet, this type of interior is not easy to clean. Porcelain interiors are much more facile to clean as they have a smooth surface. Food spills are major perpetrators of the growth of bacteria in such places. It is better to clean the interior timely. Porcelain interior may look smooth, but it is more fragile too. Aluminized steel interior does not wear out easily. Choose the specs of your commercial convection oven very precisely.
