Do’s and Don’ts When Visiting Thailand

Thailand

If you have been cooped up at home for the last couple of years, and you are looking for a fantastic holiday destination, then you should think about visiting the Southeast Asian country of Thailand. Indeed, Thailand is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the planet for good reason, especially the fantastic food, great weather and amazing cultural attractions. In addition, if you will be visiting the Southeast Asian nation of Thailand in the near future, you should remember a number of things that you should never do, while you should also be aware of the top things you should try to do during your time in the country.

DO:  Wear the appropriate type of clothing

One of the biggest things to remember in Thailand is to wear the appropriate type of clothing at all times. This is important if you will be visiting one of the many temples or the royal palaces that are located across Bangkok. In addition, you should be aware to cover your knees and shoulders, especially if you are female, while you should avoid wearing any type of beachwear when at a temple. If you are looking for a hotel that can provide you with great services, as well as close proximity to some of the best attractions in Bangkok, you should think about carrying out research about hotels in Sukhumvit.

DO:  Take off your shoes

Whenever you enter a person’s home and some shops or attractions, you should always take off your shoes as a sign of politeness. Indeed, feet are considered to be dirty in Thai culture while you may be asked to take off your shoes before you enter a person’s home. In addition, some shops may ask you to take off your shoes before you enter, while you could also decide to leave your shoes outside your hotel room as a sign of respect.

DON’T: Touch another person’s head

Another thing that you should be aware of if you will be visiting Thailand in the future is to never touch another person’s head. Just as the feet are considered to be dirty, the head is considered the most important part of the body, meaning that it is impolite to touch another person’s head without asking permission, even if it is someone you know relatively well.

DON’T:  Point at people or objects

Finally, the last thing you should do if you are visiting Thailand is to avoid pointing. Pointing is also considered rude while if you need to gesture to somebody, you should use all four fingers extended with your thumb under your palm and the hand facing down as if you were beckoning somebody in the West, but the other way round.

  • Always wear the appropriate type of clothing, especially if you are visiting a temple
  • Take off your shoes when you are entering a person’s home or certain shops
  • Never touch another person’s head
  • Avoid pointing, especially when gesturing to another person

Therefore to conclude, if you will be visiting Thailand for your next holiday, you should be aware of the above do’s and don’ts to enhance your experience of this fantastic Southeast Asian country.
