4 Tips for Installing a Backyard Birdhouse

Did you know that there are between nine and ten thousand species of birds in the world? Even where you live, you may have several hundred species that you see on a regular basis.

If you want to enjoy your birds more and draw them to your property, you should consider a backyard birdhouse. Here are some great tips to get started before you build a backyard birdhouse.

1. Research Your Local Bird Species

Before you build a birdhouse, you should make sure you know what types of birds live in your area. You may have already gotten a good idea if you want to see your local birds more, but you can also learn about their eating and nesting habits.

Once you figure out what birds you want to draw into your birdhouse, you can start thinking of construction ideas. For instance, doves like to construct nests made of sticks, so they may not need a fancy birdhouse to lay eggs and raise their young.

2. Find the Perfect Location

Location is key if you want birds to come and make nests in your backyard. When you’re thinking of backyard birdhouse ideas, you need to make sure that the birdhouse is in an area that will be relatively undisturbed.

If you want your birds to come during the spring and summertime, then place the birdhouse in a secluded, cool area. The birds can rest in the shade and have privacy with their chicks.

3. Buy It or Build Your Own

Finally, you can decide whether you want to buy a birdhouse from your local store or build your own. Many companies have birdhouses pre-built that you can add your own touches to, such as paint and accessories.

If you are feeling adventurous, try building a birdhouse from scratch. This way, you can make all of the customizations you want to and have a do-it-yourself project that you can proudly show to guests.

4. Consider Bird Feeders and Baths

Birds are clean animals and love to have a source of water for baths and hydration. A bird bath or bird feeder is the perfect addition to your birdhouse, but make sure they are a distance away from the birdhouse.

If you live somewhere with birds that do not migrate during the colder season, then you may want to consider a heated bird bath for winter. The birds can stay clean without their water freezing over. You can also buy a bird bath foundation.

Build the Perfect Backyard Birdhouse Today

If you want more wildlife in your backyard, you do not have to spend a lot of money and time to enjoy nature. With these tips, you can have birds from all over come to use your backyard birdhouse throughout the year.
