How to Help Your Teen to Study and Concentrate More

If you are the parent or if you are the carer of a teenager who is facing their exams, then you need to help them focus. You need to try and reduce distractions and you also need to make sure that you help them to stay on track as well. This will make a huge difference to their state of mind, and it will also help them with their results.

Understand their Energy Levels

Studies have shown that people are more likely to maintain their peak focus for around 2 hours a day. If you can, you need to understand your child’s energy patterns. For a lot of people, the best time for them to focus would be late in the morning. For a small percentage of people, they find that focusing late at night is the best way to go. Either way, if you can, you need to try and understand the way that your teenager works best so that you can avoid a lot of frustrating and avoidable arguments. If they feel as though they do better at a certain time, then don’t avoid it. Instead, try and create a schedule that reflects their personal preferences. If you can do this, then you can help them to stay one step closer to success. If you want to truly help them, then it is wise for you to break things down into bite-size chunks. If you know that your child is struggling, then it may be worth trying to look into Alpine Academy Utah reviews.

Brain Training

If you want to help your child to ignore distractions, then brain training can make a huge difference. The ABC technique is a fantastic way for you to give your teen the support they need with school as well. A stands for awareness, which involves them understanding where the distraction is. B is for breathing, your teen will need to slow down, and they will need to understand their options. C is for choice. Help your teen to be mindful, and then let them know that the distraction can be dealt with by simply dismissing it or by responding to it. One positive way for you to help your teen would be to tell them to be in the moment. When they find their mind wandering, ask them to return back to the present moment.

Separate Work and Play

One of the main reasons why students become distracted during study time is because they do not know the difference between the space where they relax and the place where they study. If your teen likes to study on the couch or if they prefer to study in bed, then this can make it much more difficult for them to stay focused on work. If possible, you need to try and set up a study space so that they can stay focused on their exam studies. This will help them to set their own boundaries and it will also make it much easier for them to avoid distractions too.
