The Secrets To Managing Back Pain During Pregnancy

Pregnancy takes a toll on your body and you’re likely to experience a lot of aches and pains. The stress on your joints and muscles can’t be avoided and sometimes, you just have to put up with the pain. However, back pain during pregnancy can be a real problem because it makes it difficult to do even the simplest of tasks. The good news is, even though you can’t get rid of it entirely, there are ways to manage it. These are the best ways to reduce back pain during pregnancy.

Stay Active

When you sit still in the same position all day long, your muscles get tight and sore. That’s why people often get back pain when they’re sitting at a desk all day. The same is true of pregnant women that don’t stay active, so if you want to relieve your back pain, you need to get up and move around as much as possible. Exercising during pregnancy will help to manage your back pain and keep you fit and healthy. A lot of people assume that too much movement will make their back worse, but the opposite is actually true. So, as long as your doctor has given you the green light, get up and do light exercise, like walking, as much as you possibly can.

See A Chiropractor

Sometimes, your back pain is a result of a misaligned spine, which is made worse by the extra weight of the baby. If you are really struggling, you should see a chiropractor for help. They can realign your spine and take some of the pressure off, which will do wonders for your pain. Seeing a chiropractor during pregnancy also helps to align your hips and back, which creates more space for the baby to grow and helps ease the birth process along too.

Focus On Your Posture

Maintaining good posture is difficult at the best of times, but it’s so much harder when you are carrying a baby. The extra weight causes you to shift forward and it’s tempting to counteract this by leaning right back, but this will only do damage to your back. It takes a while to get used to, but you should always pay attention to your posture throughout the day. Make sure that you stand tall and keep your shoulders relaxed. Push your chest out and keep your knees soft. If you have bad posture, this standing position can feel uncomfortable, to begin with, but you will soon get used to it and it will improve your back pain.

Sleep On Your Side

Finding the right sleeping position when pregnant is difficult but if you have serious back pain, it’s always best to sleep on your side. It’s best to keep one or both of your knees bent and use a pregnancy pillow between your knees. You should also use a pillow behind your back and under your abdomen for added support. Experiment with different positions and place pillows in different places until you can find the right setup.

Back pain is something that most people experience during pregnancy and you can’t always make it disappear. But if you try some of these methods, you should be able to reduce the pain and make yourself more comfortable.
