Dogs That Can Love Your Kids and Protect Your Home

Adding a new dog to your family is extremely exciting for everyone involved. Each person probably has their own idea of what they want in the new pet. Different dog breeds are bred to perform different jobs. Every dog has its own personality and experiences, but specific breed traits should not be completely ignored. If you and your kids want a friendly dog, but also want the protection that some breeds can offer, then you are in luck. There are certain breeds that have proven to be gentle giants when it comes to their family but have the instincts and ability to protect that family if the need arises. For all dogs, training is key. A well-socialized, obedient animal is crucial whenever kids are involved.

German Shepherd

German shepherd puppies

German shepherds are the 2nd most popular dog breed according to the American Kennel Club. They are extremely well rounded, playful and intelligent. They can learn to do just about anything. A popular choice for police dogs, German shepherds show fierce loyalty to their owners. This, combined with a courageous nature, makes them ideal for protection. German Shepherds can also be very gentle with children and other animals if socialized from a young age. German shepherd puppies Miami should spend time with family members, neighbors, kids and other pets to build their confidence.

Rottweiler

Rottweiler

Rottweilers are known to be playful and protective. Males can grow to be 130 pounds and look very intimidating, but they can be great pets when trained and socialized. Rottweilers form strong bonds with their family. They see themselves as protectors and are sometimes fearful of strangers. It helps when puppies have lots of kids and people to play with. They are powerful dogs who need plenty of things to do. If you tire them out, Rottweilers can be big soft cuddlers.

Boxer

Boxer

Boxers are very popular in the United States. They have tons of energy and are known for their goofy personalities. Boxers are the smallest on this list, only weighing around 70 pounds. However, they were bred to be guard dogs and are very protective of their families. Because of this, puppies should receive lots of socialization. They also really take to training. It helps get their endless energy out. Boxers are generally upbeat dogs that show a surprising amount of patience with children. Boxers really love their families. They just want to be around people all of the time.
