3 Reasons Why it is Important to Take Care of your Teeth

white teeth

Teeth are an incredibly important part of our body; it can be an indicator for a wide range of other health issues. This is why a lot of people decide to use Crest Whitening strips UK to mainly to teeth because they understand how important teeth are for their overall health. If you do not take care of your teeth it can also negatively affect your mental health and self-confidence. Therefore, today we are going to talk about 3 reasons why it is important to take care of your teeth.

Plaque Build-up

If we ignore our teeth a whole host of issues can crop up that will cause us so many issues. Plaque build-up being one of the most common issues that seems to arise from poor dental hygiene. Plaque build-up can lead to many oral complications. Foods containing sugar and starch are bad for our teeth. This is because our teeth and gums get covered with this sticky film that feeds off sugar and starch. These bacteria grow the more you feed it with your eating habits.

They can have disastrous effects on your mouth. This plaque can give that bacteria agency to dig into your enamel and ware away at the core of your teeth. Left unchecked this can develop into gingivitis, a very common gum disease that can destroy a once perfect smile. Excessive sugar, starch and acidic foods can increase the rate that this disease in your mouth develops.

Self Confidence

Having a great smile can light up a room. The right smile can put a smile on everyone else’s face. If you do not have that and you are self-conscious about your teeth it can negatively impact your mental health significantly. It is a common nightmare to loss teeth so I think any of us can understand why you would feel ashamed of having a mouth full of pain filled teeth.

The pain that you would regularly have to endure would also ware you down. It is hard to put a smile on your face if you are constantly having to deal with a toothache. Not to mention how many people feel when they are faced with having their photo taken. So many people hide their teeth in shame. Even if their teeth are mostly straight, they might hate to show them because they are discolored and stained due to their dietary choices.

There are kits out there that look to straighten and brighten up teeth though. This could help those people that are struggling with their oral self-confidence. You cannot use these effectively without having a reasonable standard of oral hygiene though so keep that in mind if you decide to whiten your teeth.

Overall Health

Oral health can have a knock-on effect to your entire being in general. Gum disease has been linked to a wide range of other diseases and conditions. For example, it has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, premature or low birth weight babies and osteoporosis. There have been cases of pneumonia as well in some places. This is mostly due to certain bacteria in your mouth being pulled into your lungs causing a whole host of respiratory diseases.

The cleaner your mouth is the less likely you are to develop many of the aforementioned conditions. Your mouth is the first entry point for a lot of bacteria that can end up in your body. There are already a lot of natural defenses built in to support your mouth’s ability to prevent that bacteria going where it should not. But that does not mean you need to make your body’s job harder than it already is. Keeping your oral hygiene well maintained will make sure you avoid that bacteria getting through your defenses.

Ultimately, your teeth and mouth are a complicated bacteria ecosystem that needs to be well maintained. If you do not take care of your teeth you will be hurting your mind and body. In addition to opening yourself to a whole host of diseases that can break through your weakened defences. Dentists are often a great first port of call for any oral related issues so talk to your dental professional today about how you can take care of your teeth.
