You Might Have More Money Than You Think

Ah, money. It seems to be one of those things that’s always slightly ahead of us. We’re always trying to get a little bit more of it into our bank account, yet it seems like all the big moves are in an outward direction. However, instead of lamenting this negative flow, or bemoaning the fact that we haven’t won the lottery, why don’t we look at things differently? It’s possible that you have more money than you think you do. We take a look at a few areas worth exploring below. Who knows, next month might just see more cash coming your way.

If you’re a homeowner, then you’ll already know just how easy it is to acquire material items. We think we’ve got so much space, so we buy and buy and buy, without giving too much of a second thought. But what happens is that our homes become cluttered, which affects how at peace we can feel at our property. And this clutter might also prevent us from a cash windfall. Take a look through your home, and gather any items that you haven’t used in the past six months. Selling them could bring in hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Getting a Raise

One of the misconceptions about working life is that you have to accept whatever wage is offered to you. This is not the case. While in the early days it’s best to simply accept the salary, if you’ve been there some time and know you’re doing a good job, then you can ask for a raise. Many company bosses are receptive to this idea, if it’s presented to them (it’s rare that they walk around offering raises, though). Read up on how to talk to your boss about a boost in your wages, and have a conversation. You might have 10% more money just by being a little brave.

Money That’s Rightfully Yours

People often forget that there are laws to protect people from being screwed over. If something happens to you that causes harm — both physical and financial — and it wasn’t your fault, then you may be entitled to compensation. But as with most things, it won’t just fall into your lap. It’s not the most complicated process, but it won’t just happen. Take an incident on the roads, for example. To get the money that you deserve, you’ll need to know what to do after a car accident. There are also laws in place to protect from being sold faulty goods, or being scammed out of your money. If these things aren’t your fault, then you shouldn’t pay the cost.

Selling Your Skill

Finally, do you have a skill? If you’ve reached a decent standard at a sport or activity, then you could look into selling that skill to other people. There will always be people who want to learn new things. Teach a couple of lessons a week, and you could boost your income by doing something that you already love.
