The Complete Guide to Buying and Maintaining a Beanbag for the Ultimate Comfort Experience

apple-bean-bag-blue

Beanbags have become a 21st century home staple for ultimate comfort and casual luxury. They can be placed in almost any room, making for great naps or a wonderful place to relax after a long day. Because of the flexibility, beanbags are meant to last a long time and be as interchangeable as you’d like. Here are a few tips to maximizing your bean bag furniture experience and ensuring long-term comfort for any room in your home:

Ensure Quality

When deciding to invest in a beanbag, you want to make sure the beanbag you purchase is of great quality. Ensure that the stitching is in place and the internal bag has the density you desire. It’s important to remember that all beanbags aren’t created equally. Make sure you do the necessary research in order to make sure the beanbag you purchase will last you a long time. In addition to making sure your beanbag is of high quality, make sure to get a size that will suit you and the room you want to place it in. Beanbags come in all different shapes and sizes and you’ll want to keep in mind the daily use and practicality of the one you decide to purchase.

Clean your Beanbag Regularly

The way you’ll maintain your beanbag will depend on the type of beanbag you own. Be sure to purchase a one in which the cover can be removed for the purpose of washing and maintenance.

The cover of the beanbag can be washed as needed. A healthy frequency would be about once a month for thinner fabrics and once every 6 months for thicker, sturdier fabrics such as leather. You can easily take your beanbag cover to the cleaners, or you could clean it regularly yourself. Leather beanbags are the easiest to clean. In order to clean a leather beanbag, you may simply dust it regularly with a clean towel. Velvet and vinyl bags can be cleaned with a damp soapy cloth, while cotton covers can be thrown into the washing machine.

The internal beanbag should be cleaned at least once a year. In order to do this, you can take the sack to the cleaners to have it cleaned and returned back to you as good as new.

Making sure to keep your beanbag clean is a great way to lengthen the lifetime of your beanbag.

Be Mindful of Where you Place your Beanbag

Be sure to place your beanbag in a complementary area in your home. Placing your beanbag on a rough wooden surface or concrete will cause irreversible damage over time. Make sure the surface you place your beanbag on is smooth and receptive of an object rubbing against it often. Smooth wooden surfaces are ideal. Even carpet can cause damage due to friction on cotton and velvet or velour beanbag covers. Since beanbag covers don’t have ‘feet’ or anything at the bottom to protect it from the friction it often endures when sliding from inch to inch with movement, it would be wise to pay special attention to these details to avoid damage. Once your beanbag cover has been damaged, you will have to purchase a replacement.

Be Gentle with your Beanbag

Beanbags are like little house clouds, and it’s everyone’s fantasy to be able to jump on clouds without reservation and to let your body fall comfortably as it may. The reality is, however, that they are beanbags and not magical clouds that can catch you when you fall. They’re made of stitching and fabric that only has the ability to take so much sudden impact. The constant jumping and constant application of sudden pressure can cause serious harm to the internal bag. You may also experience breaks and tears in the stitching over time with excessive jumping and force.

So, while jumping once or twice to relieve yourself of the temptation is fine, let’s not make that too much of a habit. Beanbags are meant to last a long time and be a permanent fixture in your home. Help extend the life of your beanbag by being gentle with it.

Watch What You Wear

As the ultimate comfort item in your home, sometimes it’s easy to want to come home from work or school and plop right down on your beanbag without reservation. Don’t. Just like the surface, you place your beanbag on, the things you place on your beanbag can cause serious damage. Be mindful of what you’re wearing when on your beanbag. Avoid wearing anything with rough metal edges like belt buckles, studs, exposed zippers, or rough embellishments.

Also, if you have a light-colored beanbag, remove anything with harsh dark dyes, like dark washed jeans. This is especially true if the cover of your beanbag is a light-colored leather or corduroy, as leather and corduroy are more susceptible to color transfer from dark colored clothing. Leather beanbag covers are also more expensive to replace. If you absolutely can’t resist, be sure to keep a blanket nearby and lay the blanket down before laying on your beanbag. You’ll be happy you did later.

Don’t Sweat on the Beanbag

Avoid inserting odors deep into the sack of your beanbag by making sure you’re not sweating on your beanbag. Beanbags typically aren’t like most modern mattresses in which they’re made with sweat absorption technology in order to assist those who sweat through their sleep. It’s easier for odors to get trapped inside of the sack of your beanbag since there is no fumigation system to avoid that. Because of this, it’s probably not a good idea to lay or sit on your beanbag after an intense workout or if you’re a person the sweats during sleep.

Don’t Allow your Animals on the Beanbag

It may seem like a great idea to cuddle up with your pets on your beanbag; however, this isn’t really a good idea. Allowing pets on your beanbag regularly may be harmful in more ways than one. Most animals have claws and habits of scratching and chewing that can completely ruin a beanbag very easily and very quickly. Pets also come with odors, although not necessarily offensive, that can settle in the depths of your beanbag overtime. Avoid early replacement by staying on the safe side and keeping your pets off your comfy beanbags.

Replace your Bag and Beanbag Cover

The best thing about beanbags is that they’re interchangeable. If something goes wrong, a replacement piece is not too far away. You will want to replace your beanbag cover every 3-5 years. You will want to replace the internal sack every 5-8 years. This is also handy because if ever you want to change the décor in your room and you find that the beanbag cover doesn’t match the desired aesthetic, all you have to do it make a quick change and it’s almost as if you bought a brand new beanbag.

Beanbags are an amazing timeless piece of furniture that has the ability to last a long time and create the ultimate feeling of comfort. Make sure you’re receiving the most from your beanbag by following these guidelines. Click here for more information on beanbag maintenance.
