How to Take the Stress out of Moving

Moving house is widely considered one of the most stressful things you’ll ever do. Some studies even report that moving house is more stressful than starting a new job. Whilst this might not be the case for all, it’s clear that moving house is no easy feat. The last thing any of us want before we move somewhere new is bad feeling between our family members, feelings of stress, and unhappiness. By taking the stress out of your move you can focus on creating a productive and happy environment to start your new life/home! It’s so important for our mental health and happiness to destress the moving in process. Read on to see how…

Take Your Time

Moving is stressful and it isn’t a weakness to find it challenging. The feelings of upheaval and uncertainty that arise when moving can cause relationship strain. If you’re moving with your family make sure the kids are either at school or with a friend. This may sound odd as you want to take the first steps over the threshold together, but trust me, it’s for the best. The familiarity and structure of your lives are changing, that brings some tension. Tempers fray and whilst it’s understandable, you want your children to have no reservations about moving. If they pick up on the bad energy you are emitting they may think the move is the problem and feel anxious and homesick themselves. The key is to get all the stressful jobs out of the way and then pick up your kids and get them to help with unpacking, decorating, all the positive, productive, fun things about a move.

Preparation

If you fail to prepare you prepare to fail! These wise words have never been so appropriate. Moving is unsettling and the job list can seem huge. So tackle some of the jobs before you move. By registering yourself at a new GP, setting up the bills, finding new jobs etc before you move, you alleviate some of the stress. This also mentally helps with the transition from your old place to your new one. You will already be starting to set up a life there. If you can, familiarize yourself and your family with the new area before you move. Again this will help it all feel a bit less scary and unfamiliar on the big day.

The financial implications of moving house are often huge. The first few months are likely to be pretty skint so it’s important to get your finances in order before you move. Check out your credit rating before you move. If you do have a bad credit report check out credit repair companies here https://creditrepaircompanies.com/. Credit repair companies are a great way for you to remedy a bad credit report. Make sure your finances are fixed and aren’t deterioration before a pricey move.

Hiring a skip is another time-saving idea. If you’re having a clear out before you leave your house, hire a skip a few weeks prior to the move. This will save countless trips sorting out all the refuse yourself. Skip companies take the skip away, rubbish included, so you don’t have to worry. Similarly, make sure you hire a moving van a few weeks before the move. Shop around for the best prices and be sure to load up your van a few days before. This will help you to avoid any last minute frantic packing. Leave out just the essentials you need for the night before the move. Treat yourself to a take out instead of cooking so you can pack all your kitchenware!

Mind Over Matter

Moving is undoubtedly a difficult time and can bring up some feelings of doubt and fear. But try and help yourself to get in the right mental frame for a move. Moving house should be exciting, downsizing or expanding, your new home will be a fresh start and a new beginning. Don’t let the stresses your can’t control ruin your move. Focus on all the great aspects of moving house. The new area you’ll be living in, the local park, better schools, whatever it is, focus on the positives. You’ll get the chance to make some brand new memories in a great new place. Focus on that rather than whether the move will be there on time!
