“People Like Us” Blu-ray Combo Pack Review & Giveaway!

People Like Us

Envision growing up believing you are the only child to learn your father had another family. This is what happened to Sam (Chris Pine), a fast-talking salesman, who found out after returning home for his father’s funeral he had a half-sister he never knew existed in the movie People Like Us.

On the day of a complete barter business melt-down, Sam learns his father has suddenly died.  Against his wishes, Sam agrees to travel home to help put his father’s estate in order.  On his arrival he receives an icy welcome from his mother (Michelle Pfeiffer), making the situation additionally tense and uncomfortable.  However, things even become more heated during a meeting with the lawyer when Sam, who is in a financial bind, finds out his father has left him nothing but an old shaving kit and a vinyl record collection.   Yet, not all is as it appears, and opening the shaving kit Sam discovers his father has stashed $150,000 within the bag.  Elated at the sight of the cash, he digs a bit deeper in the bag merely to find a note from his dead father asking him to deliver the money to Josh.  Upon further investigation, Sam finds out Josh is his nephew and he has a 30 year old sister named Frankie (Elizabeth Banks) who is a recovering alcoholic, single mother, and financially struggling to provide for her son.  The shocking secret turns his entire world upside down causing him to wrestle with his own life choices.

The movie is rated PG13 and not intended for young children.  They more than likely would find the content unexciting anyways, since it contains mostly adult subject matter.  There are a few cuss words, some brief sexuality, and a lot of drug and alcohol mention, so it isn’t a movie you probably would want your kiddo watching.

Overall, I enjoyed People Like Us and found it to be extremely interesting. I definitely did not see the ending coming!  It had a delightful twist that almost left me in tears.  GREAT HEARTFELT STORY! Plus, it contains a star-studded cast,  keeping you entertained the entire way through, such as Chris Pine who gives an award winning performance and is adorable as usual!
