Belli Skin Care Review and Giveaway!

belli

1 OB

Pregnancy and motherhood is a wondrous time in life, but it can also be overwhelming.  My body went through extraordinary changes as the baby developed, and I found myself  moody, exhausted, and facing unpleasant skin changes.

The increase in my hormones during pregnancy caused various skin issues, including acne, darkening, itching, and stretch marks.   The dilemma I faced was how to safely treat the unwelcome skin changes without harming my growing fetus and myself.   I wanted to pamper my skin, but was unsure what products were safe and not linked to causing birth defects.

During pregnancy I was aware of several products that were stamped with  an organic label, but was still hesitant of their safety.   Even pure natural products can contain potentially harmful ingredients and reach the fetus.  Did you know  aloe vera and rosemary have been linked to birth defects?  Aloe vera during pregnancy can cause low birth weight and other problems, and rosemary  can cause uterine stimulant effects.  In published medical studies caffeine, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid have also been shown to possibly lead to fetal abnormalities.  SCARY!

Out of fear of hurting my baby, I suffered my skin discomforts.  I was miserable with my acne, rashy, dry, itchy, covered skin.  I wish I would have known about Belli’s Pregnancy specialty line of skin care solutions!

Belli is the only skin care line in the world that is teratology screened.  What is teratology?  Teratology is simply defined as the scientific study of chemicals that are harmful to a developing fetus.   They search through over 16 million medical research articles in over 5000 international journals, and use the information to exclude ingredients  with even the slightest links to birth defects or other problems with pregnancy,  and replace them with safer choices instead.

Belli is fantastic to use during pregnancy, but you don’t have to  be pregnant to enjoy Belli’s luxurious skin products!  Their collection further includes Belli Motherhood,  and Belli Baby.  The Belli Motherhood Line is LactMed screened to avoid ingredients linked to harmful effects during breastfeeding, and the Belli Baby  Line is screened for chemicals (xenoestrogens) that can act like hormones and interfere with the normal development of the reproductive system.  Each product line addresses the special needs of each stage and soothes, pampers, and protects the skin.

Belli recently sent me several of their products  to review from the Pregnancy Line, Motherhood Line, and Baby Line.

Belli Pregnancy Line

The Skin Smoothing Body Exfoliator has a nice scent of peppermint and was not over powering or to harsh.  It gave my skin a nice healthy glow!

All Day Moisture Body Lotion

All Day Moisture Body Lotion

All Day Moisture Body Lotion deeply moisturizes, comforts and soothes dry, itchy skin. Features the essential oil of lemon, which is known for its uplifting qualities and aroma-therapeutic ability to calm upset stomachs. Chamomile softens and refreshes.

Directions: Apply daily to slightly dampened skin.

Ingredients: Deionized Water, Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Isopropyl Myristate, Sodium PCA, Glycerine, Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Ceteareth-20, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Chamomilia Recutita (Chamomile) Matricaria Flower Extract, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) (and) Glucose, Xanthan Gum, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate (and) Glycereth-2 Cocoate

The All Day Moisture Body Lotion has an incredible  fresh lemon sent.  It contains Shea Butter, Lemon Oil, and Chamomile.  The combination of ingredients made my   skin feel super soft and smelling wonderful.

Foot Relief Cream

Foot Relief Cream

Foot Relief Cream is an aroma-therapeutic, anti-bacterial, moisturizing massage treatment that comforts swollen, tired feet and relieves calf cramps. Featuring peppermint, tea tree oil and shea butter, Foot Relief Cream leaves skin feeling cool and refreshed.

Directions: Use as needed. Gently massage into affected areas. For best results, keep feet elevated for 10-15 minutes after treatment.

Ingredients: Deionized Water, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate, Glycerine, Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Ceteareth-20, Isopropyl Myristate, Sodium PCA, Cetyl Alcohol, Prunus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Stearyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Fruit, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) (and) Glucose, Xanthan Gum, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate (and) Glycereth-2 Cocoate, Menthol, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Mentha Arvensis (Peppermint) Oil, Citric Acid

I wish I would have had the Foot Relief Cream when I was pregnant with Aiden!  Towards the end of my 3rd trimester my feet ached so bad and this product would have been PERFECT to help relieve the discomfort.  I massaged the cream into my feet and it gave them a nice tingly feeling!

Acne Clearing Facial Wash

Acne Clearing Facial Wash

The safest acne solution for pregnancy, Belli Acne Clearing Facial Wash uses lactic acid to lift away dirt and oil from the facial pores, promoting clean and blemish-free skin.

Acne Clearing Facial Wash is an exfoliating wash; rich in powerful acne-ridding ingredients that leaves skin clear and refined, without over-drying. Most acne treatments are contra-indicated during pregnancy because of potential adverse effects to baby. Belli’s breakthrough formulation is the first to address pregnancy-related acne using lactic acid – an ingredient that is naturally found in the body.

Directions: This versatile treatment can be used as a daily facial cleanser or can be left on the face for 5 minutes for an intensive acne facial mask.

Active Ingredients: Lactic Acid 7%

Other Ingredients: Deionized Water, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Sodium Lactate, Sodium PEG-7 Olive Oil Carboxylate, Glycerine, Sodium PCA, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Olive Oil PEG-7 Esters, Phenoxyethanol, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate (and) Glycereth-2 Cocoate

I received two small packet samples of the Belli Acne Clearing Facial Wash that was enough for a couple of applications.   The one packet I used as a facial wash and the other sample I tried using it as a mask leaving it on for about 5 minutes.  I liked how it left my face feeling very clean and smooth!

I can’t give an in depth opinion about the product as if it is effective on my acne ( I have a few small blemishes right now) because it would have to be tested over a period of time.  However,  knowing how difficult it is to find acne products that are safe during pregnancy I  would highly recommend giving it a try!

Belli Motherhood Line

Eye Brightening Cream

Eye Brightening Cream

Eye Brightening Cream revives and illuminates tired eyes. This advanced eye brightener hydrates delicate skin, lightens dark circles and minimizes the appearance of fine lines. Vitamin K enhances circulation and is shown in research to reduce the appearance of dark circles. Saccharomyces Cerevisia extract makes the area around the eye look restored, with a more uniform complexion. Rice and Soybean protein improve hydration and also aid in reducing dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.

Directions: Use daily to keep the eye area looking refreshed and well rested.

Ingredients: Deionized Water, Olive Oil PEG-7 Ester, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Glycerine, Sodium PCA, PPG-2 Myristyl Ether Propionate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Esters, Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate, Phospholipids (and) Phytonadione, Ethoxydiglycol, Phenoxyethanol, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-3, Hydrolyzed Rice Bran Protein (and) Oxido Reductases (and) Glycine Soja (Soybean) Protein, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Dimethicone, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) (and) Glucose, Panthenol, Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Extract, Squalane, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate (and) Glycereth-2 Cocoate

Motherhood brings lots of joys,  along with sleepless nights, dark circles, and puffy bags!  In my opinion this .85 oz tube is a beauty saver.  The Eye Brightening Cream was lightweight, moisturized the skin around my eyes, and reduced the appearance of the dark circles.  I only used it a few times and I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked for me.

Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer

Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer

Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer is a powerful anti-bacterial gel that moisturizes and cleanses while on the go. Most hand sanitizers use ethyl alcohol as the active ingredient, which is very drying to the skin. They tend to leave behind a sticky residue with a medicinal smell. Belli Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer features benzalkonium chloride– a non-drying, powerful antibacterial that kills 99.9% of germs on contact. It leaves hands feeling soft, smooth, and comfortable, with a light citrus scent. Use without water so it’s perfect for on the go, and it will not stain clothing.

Active Ingredient: Benzalkonium Chloride 0.1%. Other ingredients: SD Alcohol 40-B, Deionized Water, Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters (and) Jojoba Esters, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Triethanoloamine, Lactose (and) Cellulose (and) Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (and) Ultramatin (and) Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Disodium EDTA

The  Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer is a great little product to pop in your purse so your always ready to kill those nasty little germs!  It has a nice citrus scent, does not over dry like other hand sanitizers, and is powerful against bacteria!

Belli  Baby Line

Nourish Me Enriched Body Lotion

Nourish Me Enriched Body Lotion

Nourish Me Enriched Body Lotion is pure and gentle hydration for baby’s delicate skin. Features the essential oil of chamomile to soften, refresh and soothe. Belli Baby Enriched Body Lotion also works well as a pampering massage cream for your baby.

Directions: Apply daily to slightly damp skin

FREE OF PHTHALATES AND OTHER XENOESTROGENS

Ingredients: Deionized Water, Glycerine, Stearyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Myristate, Sodium PCA, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil (and) Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Dimethicone, Chamomilla Recutita (Chamomile) Matricaria Flower Extract, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) (and) Glucose, Allantoin, Tocopherol, Inositol Hexaphosphate, Natural Fragrance, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate (and) Glycereth-2 Cocoate

A baby’s skin is so precious and you want to keep it soft, healthy, and protected.  Its important to nourish it with only the purest of products!  I massaged the lotion onto Aiden’s skin after his bath.  He loved the relaxing massage and I loved the way it made his skin so silky soft.  The scent was amazing!  I love the sweet smell of a baby and I couldn’t stop sniffing my son!

Belli offers other products such as Elasticity Belly Oil, Anti-Chloasma Facial Sunscreen SPF 25, Pampered Pregnancy Body Wash, Stretchmark Minimizing Cream, Pure Comfort Nursing Cream, Pamper Me Talc-Free Baby Powder, Protect Me Diaper Rash Cream, and more!

All of Belli’s products are allergy tested and free of synthetic dyes, gluten, and paraben preservatives.  Belli does not perform any product testing on animals.

Even though Belli was designed for pregnancy and motherhood, I recommend Belli products to any woman who wants a safer and effective means to pamper and protect their skin.

Remember, it is always wise to consult with your doctor or qualified medical professional before applying any product to your skin during pregnancy.

Meet The Founders Of  Belli

Jason P. Rubin, M.D.
Founding Physician
Medical Director

“Jason Rubin graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1997. He stayed at St. Louis University Medical Center to complete an internship in Internal Medicine and a residency program in Family Practice. Dr. Rubin is now a board-certified family practitioner with broad experience in obstetrics, pediatrics, dermatology, and emergency medicine.  He is a member of both the Teratology Society and the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists.

In 2002, Dr. Rubin and his wife Annette created the Belli Pregnancy collection to pamper mother’s skin in luxurious comfort while also protecting her baby. Concerned about the risk of chemicals absorbing through the skin and into the bloodstream during pregnancy, he developed Belli’s exclusive teratology screening process, which searches through millions of published medical research studies to help women avoid ingredients even remotely linked to birth defects. Dr. Rubin’s higher pregnancy safety standards are recommended by OB-Gyn physicians across the country.

In 2006, the Rubins created the Belli Motherhood collection with LACT-MED database screening to help women avoid ingredients linked to harmful effects while breastfeeding. And in 2007, they introduced the beloved Belli Baby collection which avoids xenoestrogens, and features only the purest ingredients for delicate skin.

As Belli’s medical director, Dr. Rubin oversees all safety screening and efficacy claims.  Working together with a team of other experts  (obstetrician, dermatologist, teratologist), he guides Belli’s chemists in the creation of each unique product. He also writes a series of educational articles that teach women about the skin care changes of pregnancy/motherhood, and the best care and cleansing routines for their babies.”

I like the idea that it is so safe to use their products while breastfeeding and through pregnancy. I have to check back, if they have some “safe” sunscreen for kids, because that’s something I’m always worrying about.

  150. Heather Goldsmith says

    2009/08/23 at 5:49 pm

I learned that “We search through over 16 million medical research articles in over 5000 international journals, and use this information to exclude ingredients with even remote links to birth defects or other problems with pregnancy. Belli Motherhood is LactMed screened to avoid ingredients linked to harmful effects during breastfeeding. Belli Baby is screened for xenoestrogens—chemicals which can act like hormones that interfere with normal development of the reproductive system. So no matter which Belli products you use, you can have peace of mind erring on the side of caution.”

I think it’s great that the company took so much time and effort to ensure that their products are only the best for you and your baby.
