Green Tip Of The Day.
Switch your light bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs. CFL bulbs happen to be 4 to 6 times more efficient than an incandescent bulb. Even though the initial cost of a CFL is higher than a standard bulb, the money savings over the lifetime of the bulb can be significant. A CFL lasts approximately 10,000 hours compared to the standard bulb only lasting 1,000 hours. They also produce 70% less heat making them safer to operate and cut energy costs associated with cooling your home. The Consumer Reports declares that switching a single bulb to CFL can save $5.00 a year in electrical costs. Imagine the savings if you switch all your bulbs to CFL! Switching all the bulbs in your home can be expensive at first so just switch a few at a time.
A simple switch yet money saving and eco-friendly!

Done!! Just did so about 8 months back. Noticed a big difference. Hardest gig? Is reducing our air conditioning costs in the summer. I know it zaps a bunch of energy but its tough out here in Las Vegas it gets up to 117.
I have a few around my house but I’ve had some burn out-I thought they were supposed to last years?
Hi Tess!
Did the bulb have the energy star symbol on it? I believe they carry a minimum warranty of 3 to 7 years against all defects. If the bulb fails before it’s time you can return it to the retailer or manufacturer. They should replace it for free.
bark licker!
i’ve never heard that one before!!
we’ve had those bulbs ever since they came out, i can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t, even if you look at it from a strictly financial point.
the warranty does not cover son damage. as in, my son knocked over the lamp . . .
Good advice, start small and keep doing more and more… we are slowly changing over our bulbs for those kind. They have lasted us awhile!
I’m had a few flourescents burn out, too. I think I bought them at a dollar store or something!
I think in this case, you may want to stick with a name brand.
We are moving to a new home and I am doing the investment right off to ensure every bulb is one of those.
